Mr Ng Cher Pong was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in November 2025.
As a statutory board, IMDA oversees the Tech and Media domains for Singapore, and is the “Architect of Singapore’s Digital Future” through its four key roles. As an economic developer creating jobs, investing in innovation and R&D (including in AI), driving enterprise digital transformation, and growing start-ups. As a progressive regulator, ensuring resilient digital infrastructure, as well as building a trusted data and AI ecosystem (concurrently as the Personal Data Protection Commissioner). As a social leveller championing digital inclusion. As a digital diplomat, shaping global rules and norms around Technology.
Prior to joining IMDA, Cher Pong was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Library and Archives Board (NLB) for close to 6 years, where he was responsible for Singapore’s network of 28 libraries, the National Library as well as the National Archives of Singapore. Cher Pong was spearheading NLB’s mission to nurture readers for life, build learning communities and a knowledgeable nation. He was also key in strengthening NLB’s standing as an international leader in the industry, forging partnerships and exchanges around the world.
Cher Pong spent many years in the education and lifelong learning domains, holding senior roles in the Ministry of Education. He was the founding Chief Executive of SkillsFuture Singapore, where he played a pivotal role in championing Singapore’s national movement to reskill and upskill workers, including the development and implementation of various SkillsFuture initiatives. In 2016, he received the Public Administration Medal (Silver) for his Civil Service contributions.
Cher Pong graduated as an engineer from the University of Cambridge and holds a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD. He also attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
